As the health benefits become more well know more folks are turning to a vegetarian lifestyle. But, whether you have chosen a vegetarian life style or not this apple banana strawberry smoothie recipe deserves your attention.
Our friend the apple is a favorite ingredient in many healthy and tasty smooties with good reason. As a food, the apple has only 65 calories per half cup and just two of those are from fat. The apple has very little saturated fat, sodium, or cholesterol and delivers large amounts of vitamin C, a little bit of vitamin A, and a lot of dietary fiber.
Now mix all that apple fruit goodness with both strawberries and bananas and you end up with a nutrient rich apple banana strawberry smoothie recipe that also satisfies.
Optionally, the recipe also calls for a tablespoon of Chia seed. Unlike Flax seed, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so it won’t change the results but it will add even more nutritional value to the smoothie.
In you favorite blender mix the following:
- 1 green apple
- 1 red apple
- 2 frozen bananas, peeled and sliced (TIP: peel and slice BEFORE FREEZING)
- 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
- 1-2 cups apple juice
- (Optional) 1 Tbsp. Chia seed<
If you don’t use a super powerful food processor it is a good idea to dice the apples before mixing to not overtax the motor.
