This recipe is a time honored Banana Blueberry smoothie mix but has been enhanced with a cup of V* Fusion Blueberry Pomegranate Juice.

Any smoothie with Blueberries is bound to be popular because here in the U.S., only the strawberry is more popular with consumers. Nutritionally, a cup of Blueberries provides vitamins K and C, manganese, and dietary fiber and that doesn’t even mention their antioxidant properties which is one of the best of all fruits and vegetables. And now newer nutritional research has shown that freezing Blueberries does not damage the “anthocyanin” antioxidants which means you can enjoy Blueberries in your diet all year round.

Probably because they are available fresh all year round Bananas, the other main ingredient in this Banana Blueberry smoothie mix, are taken for granted and that’s not right. Bananas are rich in vitamins B6 and C and also provide manganese, potassium, and dietary fiber. Bananas are one of the best sources of potassium which is a great help in maintaining normal heart activities. Bananas are also very good frozen. This is great for smoothies because freezing a banana before use will cut down on any ice required to make the mix cold. This Banana Blueberry smoothie mix calls for a frozen banana for just that reason. One word of advice: Peel and slice before you freeze!

Our Banana Blueberry smoothie also calls for a Tbsp. of Chia seed as an optional ingredient. Chia has a host of nutritional properties including heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Chia is a perfect smoothie ingredient because it has no real taste of its own. that means that you will not be changing the Banana Blueberry goodness if you do choose to include it in your mix.
