Ginger comes from the root stock (or “rhizome”) of the Ginger plant (“Zingiber officinale”) and is a really good spice that gets used in a lot of ways around the kitchen like, for instance, this Banana Ginger smoothie.
This recipe has a wonderful snappy taste and we’ve used it both as a snack and as a planned dessert. If you are planning on a smoothie diet, you would probably want to replace the honey with a lower calorie sweetener, but even with the honey it’s not a heavy calorie treat.
large frozen banana, peeled and sliced
1 cup low fat vanilla Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp honey
1/2 tsp. grated ginger
By adding Chia seed to the mix you can increase the overall nutrition content for a really healthy treat.
