Banana Molasses Smoothie:
This recipe calls for blackstrap molasses which can be found in a lot of organic food aisles. Should you be curious, the difference between plain and blackstrap molasses is that regular molasses comes from a second boiling of the sap and blackstrap comes from the third. Boiling molasses a third time increases the amount of iron by several percent and enhances the flavor quite a bit. Since we like our smoothies as flavorful as possible, using blackstrap molasses just makes sense.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (TIP: peel and slice BEFORE freezing)
  • 2 Tbsp. blackstrap molasses
  • 1 cup milk (for this recipe, whole milk is best but you may have another choice)
  • 1 Tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Sweetener to taste
