This banana strawberry yogurt smoothie recipe can easily be turned into a nutritional powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed to the mix. Unlink Flax seed, Chia has no taste of its own so can be added directly to the recipe without changing the tasty results. Even better, Chia offers a very wide nutritional footprint including antioxidants and heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids.
In your favorite blender mix:
1 previously frozen banana, peeled and sliced BEFORE FREEZING!
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup low-fat yogurt, the flavor of their choice
1 tsp. honey to “sweeten up” the taste
1 tbsp. Chia seed
Mix until smooth and creamy, pour and if you would like, add a “slurpy straw,” you know, the one with the little spoon on the end!
Healthy, nutritious and a great afternoon snack-you and your kids are sure to enjoy!
