For some reason, some folks have a problem drinking green color smoothies and Kale smoothies are normally very green. This Beet Kale smoothie recipe uses just a little beet with the Kale to change the color from the objectionable green to more of a purple color. As a bonus, this Beet & Kale smoothie is both very healthy and very “green”.
Its also easy to turn this Beet Kale smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
small bunch of large Kale leaves (4-5)
1/4 of a medium sized beet
1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 pack sweetener (stevia or your choice)
1 1/2 cups filtered water
Ice to taste
1 tsp. Chia seed
