This Blackberry smoothie recipe also calls for Chia seed but with a bit of a twist: soak the Chia for about a half an hour prior to mixing in the smoothie. Chia is naturally “hydrophilic” which means that it absorbs many times its own weight in water. When soaked in water, the seeds form a gel that slows the digestion process so food nutrients are absorbed more completely and keeps you satisfied for a longer period of time.
8 ounces almond milk
1 cup blackberries (fresh is best but use frozen if that is what’s available)
1 previously frozen banana, peeled and sliced (if you cut and freeze the banana, it will make for a colder smoothie without the need for ice)
1 Tbsp Chia seed
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend on high for 30 seconds or until smooth.
