Brown Spots Fruit Smoothie
Fruit markets and grocery stores always have apples in bags and bananas in large bunches. Most of us will buy these bunches of bananas and bags of apples, end up with too many, not use them quick enough and then throwing the remainder away when they get brown spots and a bit mushy.
Besides being a terrible waste of both food and money, it is also something you don’t really need to do. Instead of throwing these less than perfect fruits away, they will mix perfectly into a what I call a brown spots fruit smoothie.
This means you win in several ways:
- You will save money
- You will eat better
- You will personally generate less food waste
In your favorite blender mix:
- 1 of your soft over-ripe bananas cut in chunks
- 1 apple cored and cut in chunks (you can leave the skin or remove)
- 1 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt (Greek yogurt works really well
- 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
Jazz up this recipe by adding some fruit juice to the mix if its too thick (or water, or ice, entirely up to you). A bit of honey will add some sweet to the mix as well.
