avocado honey smoothie

This quick and easy Avocado Honey smoothie proves that they are more than just an ingredient in dips. Avocados do get some bad reviews because they do have a pretty high fat content, bu 75% of that is mono-unsaturated. Avocados also provide more potassium than a banana and are a good source of B, E, and K vitamins as well as dietary fiber.

And, as a bonus, at least one early study indicates that Avocados may help to lower cholesterol levels!

In any case, whether you are on a smoothie diet, or just enjoying them occasionally, this is a very tasty and healthy recipe.

1 ripe avocado, sliced peeled and without pit
1 cup low fat or 2% milk
1/2 cup low fat vanilla Greek yogurt
2 tbs. honey
Ice to taste

This avocado Honey smoothie can be made even healthier by adding a tsp. of Chia seed to the mix.

Healthy Banana Smoothie Recipe

healthy banana smoothie recipe, banana nutrition facts, benefits of bananas, banana nutrition,

Here is a healthy banana smoothie recipe to start the day. It almost guarantees no mid-morning slump.

Like everything in life bananas are a mix of good and not so good.
On the plus side:

  • Bananas are very low in saturated fats, sodium, and cholesterol.
  • Bananas are a great way to get dietary fiber, Vitamins C and B6, Potassium, and Manganese

Not so good:

  • Many of the calories in a banana come from sugars

Some avoid banana completely because of the sugars but I think that this is a case of the good outweighing the bad. While I wouldn’t want to build a meal plan around bananas, I see nothing harmful in enjoying them in a healthy banana smoothie recipe or any other smoothie recipe for that matter.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 Banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup milk (your choice, skim, low fat, 2%, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup Greek vanilla Yogurt (fat-free if you prefer)
  • 1 tbsp. Peanut Butter, creamy not chunky
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract (cut this back if you are not much of a vanilla fan; as little as 1/4 tsp. works)
  • 1 tbsp. Chia Seed

To prepare, put everything into the blender at the same time and blend until smooth. If the mix is too thick it can be easily thinned with a bit more milk or a couple of ice cubes.

Honey gets a bad rap sometimes but it might be one of nature’s most perfect natural foods. Man has used honey as a food, and as a medicine, for thousands of years. While all that is history, today’s fresh fruit honey smoothie recipe is all about adding taste and nutrition to your daily diet.

Smoothies also offer the opportunity to add even more nutritional goodness to any diet just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results. You can order Chia directly from Amazon by clicking the link in the recipe.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 3/4 cups fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, whatever you like!)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla frozen yogurt
  • 1 cup cold apple juice
  • 2 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
  • Ice to taste
