Should you be running out of healthy breakfast ideas, today’s cinnamon and nectarine fruit smoothie uses nectarines which, as you probably know, is a form of peach. Nonetheless, nectarines have a different taste and do really well as change from the usual breakfast ideas.

This smoothie treat also makes it easy to start the day with a lot of additional nutrition simply by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed to the recipe. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 2/3 cup low or no fat milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 nectarines, with peel but deseeded and chunked
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
  • Ice to taste

This smoothie uses Nectarines for a bit of a change. You probably already know that nectarines are a sort of peach, but did you know that their nickname is “shaved peach” because of the smooth skin? Usually, they are, mostly, smaller and sweeter than a typical peach and that sweetness makes them really good in smoothies!

  • 2 nectarines, cut in quarters and pitted
  • 1 large frozen banana, peeled and sliced/li>
  • 1 orange, cut into quarters and peeled
  • 1  tbsp. honey
  • 1 cup yogurt (vanilla or plain)
  • 1 cup orange juice

Just put everything into the blender and blend away until smooth. Note: this smoothie recipe serves four.

A nectarine is a fruit very similar to a peach, but a bit heartier with a smoother flavor, juicy and often quite sweet. A nectarine is also a good source of vitamin C.

This spring when you find them in the store, bring home a few and make a smoothie for desert in place of peach pie!

Adding Chia seed is optional but it won’t change the taste if you do and Chia will deliver even more nutritional value including heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Mix in your smoothie blender:

-3 nectarine, peeled and de-stoned
-1 cup of frozen banana chips
-1 cup of low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt
-1 tablespoon Chia Seed

A delicious way to add so many of the nutrients we need for healthy living!
