pineapple yogurt smoothie

Pineapple is maybe the best of all the tropical fruit. Somehow it adds just a little bit of the islands to any recipe its used in. A perfect example is this juicy pineapple yogurt smoothie. It just makes your day as a starter or keeps you going as a snack

Add a tablespoon of Chia seed to the mix and you turn a normal pineapple yogurt smoothie into a very nutritious drink filled with all sorts of good stuff like heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia has no taste of its own so adding it won’t change the “Pineapply” results!

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 can crushed pineapple with juice (8-12 ounce can size)
  • 1/2 c. cold orange juice
  • 1 large banana (frozen is fine)
  • 1 cup low-fat yogurt (plain, vanilla, banana or pineapple)
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
  • ½-1 cup of ice, as needed

Fruit Fact: Raspberries are in the same family as the Rose which seems very fitting. Also, raspberries are really tasty and that fact is proved in the raspberry Greek yogurt smoothie below.

With just four ingredients, this shouldn’t take more than about five or six minutes to throw together. Great for a quick and healthy breakfast or anytime you want a little something until the next meal.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 cup raspberries (fresh if available but frozen works too)
  • 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (this is one six ounce container if you have it)
  • 1 Tbsp. honey (about 65 calories, so not bad!)
  • Ice to taste, probably about a cup
  • 1 Tbsp Chia seed (Optional but a good choice)

Almonds have a bad reputation in some circles as being an unhealthy food. True, you can certainly binge on Almonds (as you can with most foods) but when eaten in moderation almonds offer a great deal of nutrition. This Almond Yogurt smoothie is a good example.

As far as nutritional value, almonds are a great source of vitamin E, manganese, and magnesium. Almonds also offer fiber, calcium, riboflavin and niacin. Interestingly, almonds are the only food that offers both vitamin E and protein at the same time.

This is a good recipe anytime and will also offer a great deal of energy after a challenging workout.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • Handful shelled almonds
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • Frozen banana (peel and slice before freezing)
  • 1 Tbsp. raisins
  • 1 tsp. each cinnamon and honey
  • 1/2 cup reduced fat milk
  • Ice to taste

Tofu, which has little flavor or aroma on its own, is rich with iron, calcium and magnesium-and it is so easily added to smoothies. Here is a Tofu smoothie with berries and Greek yogurt that is low in calories and high in nutrition.

Even more good nutritional value can be included by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results. You can order Chia directly from Amazon by clicking on the link in the recipe.

In your favorite blender mix:

– 1 cup frozen strawberries, blueberries or raspberries
– 1 cup low-fat vanilla Greek yogurt
– 1 medium banana cut in chunks
– 1 package of silken tofu, soft and drained
– 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
