healthy peanut butter smoothie

I wouldn’t recommend this Healthy Peanut Butter Smoothie recipe to anyone who is on a strict diet. Low calorie it isn’t! But the recipe is still healthy and is a good choice as a lunch replacement or a hearty snack.

You can also turn this Peanut Butter smoothie treat into a real nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 3 Tbsp. Creamy Peanut butter
  • 1 cup uncooked oatmeal
  • cup milk (soy, 2%, whole milk, its your choice)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Ice to taste (about a cup or less)
  • Optional: 2 tbsp. chocolate syrup

oat - banana smoothie

What we eat for breakfast (and please never skip it!) often sets the tone for the rest of the day. This is a lot of culinary responsibility and one that this Oat – banana smoothie recipe handles quite well.

The ingredients here provide lean protein, soluble fiber, and an energy boost to get your day off on the right track.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (TIP: Peel and slice the banana BEFORE FREEZING!)
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk (this is where the protein comes from)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tsp. honey (or sweetener of your choice)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon

All the ingredients go into your trusty blender at the same time and blend until your preferred consistency is reached.

By the way, if you aren’t clear on what “rolled oats” are here is what Wikipedia has to say “Rolled oats are traditionally oat groats that have been de-husked, steamed and then rolled into flat flakes under heavy rollers before being stabilized by being lightly toasted”. If you want all the details, the page is here.

All the research says that the old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day is true. But way too many of us either skip breakfast for a cup of designer coffee, or chow down on a sticky bun or fast food sandwich instead of eating a balance meal. If this sounds like you, try this oatmeal smoothie instead.

Truly, this oatmeal smoothie recipe is a full breakfast in a single glass. It is easy to make and even easier to enjoy. And, if you are looking to add more nutrition, toss in a tablespoon of Chia seed to the mix. Chia is a natural nutrition powerhouse that brings a lot to the table including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 2 fatty acids. Even better, Chia doesn’t have any taste of its own so adding it won’t change the delicious results a bit.

To create this oatmeal smoothie, mix in your favorite blender:

1 cup cold Orange Juice
1 Previously frozen banana, peeled and chunked
1 cup milk (your choice, skim. soy, etc.)
