This easy tomato smoothie recipe is both very nutritious and very low in calories. In short, its a health aware foodie’s dream.

Tomatoes are widely known for their outstanding antioxidant content, including, of course, their oftentimes-rich concentration of lycopene.

A different take on fresh tomato juice, it is best served very cold and makes a great summer treat.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 2 large ripe tomatoes cut in quarters and chilled in your freezer for about 15 minutes
  • 1 carrot, peeled and sliced
  • 1 stalk Celery, sliced
  • Pinch each of black pepper and salt
  • Tsp. lemon juice
  • Ice to taste

A lot of us are always on the lookout for effective weight loss solutions and even more are going to be looking right after the holidays are past.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1/2 a Cantaloupe
  • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 tomato (sliced)
  • Juice from 2 Oranges
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed

This mix is low calorie, satisfying, and offers a huge blast of vitamin C to ward off winter colds.

Even the best healthy vegetarian recipes can sometimes be a bit bland but this is not a concern with this really tasty tomato juice smoothie.

But first: If, like me, you believe that the tomato is a vegetable we are both wrong. The tomato is, in fact, a fruit. I guess what family it is really doesn’t matter that much because wherever they fit, tomatoes are a great source of many types of nutrition plus being very tasty.

Lycopene, an important antioxidant in the struggle against cancer is probably the best known tomato based health benefit. Our bodies do not produce this antioxidant and se we must get it from food sources and tomatoes are the only source.

Besides Lycopene, tomatoes are extremely low in calories, saturated fat and have no cholesterol. They do have quite a bit of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals.  Something else that I didn’t know is that tomatoes are about 93-95% water, which is a higher ratio than the watermelon.

This tomatoes and juice smoothie combines tomatoes and some other good stuff. The result is an interesting combinations of flavors and spice that is a great eye-opener.


In your blender, combine and then mix.

  • 3 cups tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup V8 or Tomato juice
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced and scrubbed
  • 1 cup chopped celery, stalk only
  • 1 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh onion, onion powder or onion flakes
  • 1 tsp Chia seed (optional)
  • Ice to taste

If you would like this recipe a bit more spicy, add horseradish and/or tabasco and serve with a slice of lemon and celery stalk.

Tomatoes are rich with antioxidants and are really a good veggie to use for making healthy tasty smoothies. Mix the following ingredients, and enjoy a healthy tomato apple smoothie snack after working out or to beat the “3:00 slump.” T

Its also easy to turn this Tomato Apple smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

– 2 cups (chopped) tomatoes
– 1 apple cored, seeded and cut in chunks
– 1/2 cup chilled V8 Juice
– 1/4 cup apple juice
– 1 teaspoon of Chia seed

Blend well, pour into a chilled glass and add a tall celery stalk to munch on too.
