Chocolate is a lot more than candy. Many different studies have proven that dark chocolate has many health benefits. Some recent health research confirms earlier claims that chocolate offers cardiovascular benefits. European studies report those who eat chocolate regularly enjoyed reduced risk of heart failure and stroke as well as lowered blood pressure. Credit goes to flavonoids which are antioxidant compounds that benefit the arteries and veins. All this good news does not mean you can exist on a diet of chocolate bars and chocolate covered cherries (a personal favorite!) but it does mean that you can enjoy this chocolate raspberry smoothie recipe without guilt.
Its also easy to turn this chocolate raspberry smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
1/2 cup Raspberries (fresh or Frozen)
1 frozen banana (peeled and chopped)
1 Tbsp. Cocoa powder
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup milk ( your choice, soy, 2%, skim)
1 Tbsp. Chia seed
