There are a lot of chocolate smoothie recipes but many of them are too close to a milk shake or ice cream for my tastes. But there are exceptions!
As a child I always enjoyed visiting my grandparents. Not only were they warm and kind and spoiled me rotten, but Grandma always had a plate of chocolate covered cherries out for guests. Needless to say, I loved them and often ate more than I should. Now, that wonderful combination of tastes can be had in a chocolate smoothie recipe!
Its also easy to turn this chocolate smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
1 cup chocolate milk (2% or soy if you are being good)
1 cup frozen cherries, pitted
1/2 cup chocolate mousse yogurt
1 Tbsp. Chia seed
That’s it, simple and delicious. You could also add an ice cube or two if the frozen cherries aren’t enough to make the drink as cold as you want
