Peach Yogurt Smoothie
Peaches are an interesting fruit. They originated in China and are a member of the rose family. Today, China still produces more peaches than anyone else and Italy is next. Their scientific name is “Punus persica” which is a direct reference to the fruit traveling along the silk road to Persia.
Today you can buy one of two varieties of the fruit. The “clingstone” peach has flesh that sticks to the large seed, and the “freestone” peach where the flesh does not stick to the seed. A fresh peach should have a bit of a “give” to the flesh and have an even gold or creamy color. Peaches are at their best from the month of June until the end of August. This short season means that a lot of us enjoy peaches that have been dried, canned, or frozen.
Peaches are tasty and nutritious too. The normal peach will provide vitamins A and C, 3 grams of dietary fiber and only about 70 calories
In this Peach Yogurt smoothie recipe peaches are featured so lovers of the fruit will love this smoothie too. Optionally, add a tsp. of Chia seed for even more nutrition including heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
