We call this a “dessert smoothie” because of the chocolate syrup. Outside of that, this is a pretty standard mixed fruit smoothie. Not there is anything wrong with that at all; In our view smoothies are good almost anytime and anywhere. While I wouldn’t recommend this recipe to anyone who is trying to lose weight, it is a great choice for a dessert or just a treat when you deserve one.
If you choose, you can add to the nutritional value by including a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia has a robust nutritional load including both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which are known to help reduce cholesterol. Chia also offers minerals such as Phosphorus, Manganese, and Calcium. Even better, Chia has no real taste of its own so, if you do choose to include it, it will not change the already great taste of this “dessert smoothie”.
In your favorite blender mix:
1/2 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
1 cup milk (low fat, regular, 2%, soy, its your choice)
1/2 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Tbsp. Chia seed
