Ginger Root Smoothie:
Ginger is from the same plant family that includes turmeric and cardamom. Besides being used in cooking and food preparation as a spice it has a long history of being utilized as a medicine as well.
Today, Ginger is used in ginger ale, ginger snaps. and gingerbread so why not a smoothie? Besides being really tasty, ginger also aids digestion, helps keep blood pressure in check by improving circulation, it will calm a queasy stomach and morning sickness by helping to relax the muscle contractions that are part of nausea. Here it is mixed with some apple cider and pineapple to create a ginger root smoothie that you just have to try.
The Chia seed is optional but using it won’t get in the way of the flavor and will give a bunch of vitamins and minerals including heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Chia has no taste of its own and will just disappear into the mix but you still get all the nutritional value.
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1 apple, cored, peeled, and quartered (we used a golden delicious)
- 1/2 cup frozen or fresh pineapple
- 1 tbsp. Chia seed
- Ice to taste
