You have found a very healthy and very tasty blueberry spinach smoothie that is made even more tasty with a bit of ginger root.

Ginger is an aromatic spice and Ginger root is the rhizome from the zingiber plant. It is one of the natural ingredients that has been used by man for hundreds of years as a cure for many different conditions. Fast forward to the present and Ginger root is being recognized for many health benefits including nausea, inflammation, heartburn, relief from cold and flu symptoms, and a cure for migraine headaches. Even though some of these claims have yet to be confirmed by science, what is clear is that Ginger root has a place in your diet.

Its also easy to add even more nutrition to this smoothie treat with a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 8 millimeters (about 1/3 inch) Ginger root
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups Spinach leaves
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • Ice to taste (tip: make your ice cubes from filtered water as well)
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
