Traditionally granola is a mix of puffed rice, nuts, honey, and rolled oats that is baked. Frequently manufacturers will add dried fruits like dates and raisins to the mix as well. Granola is a very popular as a breakfast food because of its high nutritional value in dietary fiber and protein.
Here it is the main ingredient in a granola banana smoothie that is a great way to begin the day. Optionally, you can also add a tablespoon of Chia seed to this recipe without changing the taste at all. Chia has no real taste of its own so it just quietly disappears into the mix. But adding it also adds a wide range of additional nutritional value including important heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
- 1 cup Granola
- 1 previously frozen banana, peeled and sliced
- 2 tbs. honey
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp. Chia seed
