Green smoothies are so popular because they are so healthy without giving up any taste. The best of these healthy drinks combine a number of fruits and vegetables together into one healthful mix that will provide a whole day’s worth of nutrition in a single glass. Just don’t let the color of the smoothie influence the way you think its going to taste.
Its also easy to add even more nutrition to this smoothie treat just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (peel and slice before freezing)
1 seedless orange, without skin, cut in chunks
1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
1 cup of fresh spinach (full cup)
1 cup of plain or vanilla yogurt
A quick note: The texture and ripeness of fruits and vegetables often will be the key to the thickness of your smoothie. If your smoothie is too thick, just add a little juice or a couple of ice cubes with the smoothie ingredients and mix until it is the consistency you like best.
