Healthy Strawberry Smoothie Recipe
Strawberries are always at, or near, the top of the list of American’s favorite fruits. This is not a surprise; not only do strawberries taste great, mix with a whole universe of other foods, they also are very photogenic as well. And we all know beauty is a great selling point whether for fruits or for people.
We call this a healthy strawberry smoothie and it is but some of you might take exception to sugar as one of the listed ingredients. To you I would say that if you are adamant about not wanting the additional sugar, feel free to substitute your favorite sweetener, or leave it out all together. For the rest of us I want to point out that a tablespoon of table sugar contains right around 48 calories and a teaspoon about 16 calories. As the recipe below calls for 2 tsp. sugar you can figure on about 32 calories. In any case, whether or not to use table sugar, natural sugar, artificial sweetener or nothing at all is entirely up to you. Speaking just for me, I am not going to get too upset about 32 calories.
Enough sugar discussion and on to the healthy strawberry smoothie recipe!
In your favorite blender mix:
- 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
- 1/2 cup fresh Orange Juice (please! no concentrate!)
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tsp. sugar (see above)
- 1 tbsp. Chia Seed
This simple recipe is, I think, one of the better ways to start a day especially in spring or summer.
