“Honeydew melon” is a sweet name. I think its a much better name than “muskmelon” which sounds pretty terrible. But the honeydew melon is a member of the muskmelon family along with the Casaba melon and a few others.
The meat of a honeydew melon is sweet and juicy. So much so that is frequently served as a dessert. The melons are able to be grown in most climates. In the United States, honeydew melons are successfully grown as far north as Minnesota. Because they can be grown in such a wide area they are available all year, honeydew melons can be found in virtually every food market in the country.
Nutritionally, the honeydew is low in both calories and sodium and even lower in cholesterol and saturated fat. Like most fruits, they are a great source of vitamins including B6, A, and C.
In this smoothie recipe the honeydew melon is mixed with Peaches, Pineapple, and Oranges. It is an absolutely wonderful way to start the day and will provide enough energy to last the entire day.
As we often do, we have included a tablespoon of Chia seed as an optional ingredient. Chia has no taste of its own so, if you do choose to use it, it will not change the remarkable results of the recipe. - 1 cup sliced Honeydew Melon
- 1 Orange, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 Peach, sliced
- 1/2 Cup Pineapple, sliced
- 1 Tbsp. Chia seed (optional)
- Ice to Taste
