Orange Banana Yogurt Smoothie
But, before we do, a bit about the Orange:
Were you aware that the sweet orange does not grow in the wild? It is a cultivated variety of the fruit that appears to have originated somewhere in Asia. The Portuguese generally get the credit for introducing it to Europe in the 1500s. The Florida orange groves began in the 1870s with seeds originally from the French in New Orleans.
Today, the orange is one of the all time favorite edible fruits and is used in a whole lot of fruit smoothie recipes. The recipe here calls for orange juice and fresh is always best if you can get it because it has much less sugar.
In your favorite blender mix:
1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (TIP: peel and slice BEFORE FREEZING!)
Half a cup vanilla or plain nonfat Greek Yogurt
1 cup orange juice (fresh is best because of less sugar, but use what you have)
1 tbsp. honey or other sweetener
1 tbsp. Chia seed
Ice to taste
