I really enjoyed the fruity spinach smoothie we posted on Tuesday this week-and it reminded me of my favorite salads. It is a cold spinach salad that is made with citrus, a tart citrus dressing – topped with glazed pecans. I also have a great salad recipe using spinach, apples, walnuts, and onions. Looking at the recipes made me hungry so I decided to make up another healthy smoothie recipe using my spinach salad recipe. The results are this Orange Spinach smoothie and it is delicious.
Its also easy to turn this Orange Spinach smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
– 1 cup of fresh spinach-chopped in bits
– 1 orange, peeled and cut in chunks. You can also use a tangerine if you like
– A small handful of pecans
– 1 cup of orange juice
– 1 tbsp.Chia seed
You might need to add some extra orange juice for a smooth consistency, it will depend on the thickness of the spinach leave and juiciness/tenderness of the orange.
