Fruit fact you may not know: The word “pomegranate” comes from two french words, “pomme” and “garnete” or “seeded apple”. There are also rumors that the Garden of Eden fruit that Eve found irresistible was really a pomegranate and not an apple. You can read much more about the fruit here. I don’t know if that is true but I do know that we frequently overlook pomegranates and that’s a shame. The fruit is rich with vitamin C and potassium. They are also a very good source of dietary fiber. The juice from this overlooked fruit includes three types of antioxidants. These antioxidants are believed to be helpful in preventing heart disease and some cancers.

In this smoothie recipe pomegranate is mixed with other ingredients, including protein powder, to make a great tasting and very healthy smoothie mix. This mix is a tasty and healthy way to begin the day!

  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 2 tbsp. protein powder
  • 1 cup almond milk (or soy)
  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 3 tbsp. slivered almonds
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • Ice to taste
