Why are protein smoothies something you should be aware of?
Well, most importantly, because protein is an important building block of human life. It is found in every cell of the human body. It is always being broken down and must be replaced daily. It is created from twenty different types of amino acids that come together in differing ways to create all the different types of protein required for human life.
How much you need depends on how old you are. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), the following are the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). The measurement in the right column is the number of grams required each day.
|Children ages 3 and under||13|
|Children ages 4 – 8||19|
|Children ages 9 – 13||34|
|Females ages 14 – 18||46|
|Males ages 14 – 18||52|
|Females ages 19 – 70+||46|
|Males ages 19 – 70+||56|
Protein smoothies are a very good way to add protein to your diet. This particular recipes calls for a tablespoon of protein powder and will be a good recipe to use when you are exercising regularly to increase your muscle mass. As I said above, the protein in your body needs to be constantly replenished to keep good health and regular exercise makes that even more important.
There are many good natural sources of protein as well and you can learn more about them here but making use of a powder is a real time saver when you don’t have time to cook and still want to get a blast of protein.
