Here’s something I didn’t know. Because of the perception of prunes being good only for relief of constipation many distributors have dropped the word “Prune” and replaced it with “Dried Plum”. Regardless of what you call it, the prune (or dried plum) has a very complex flavor that is pretty unique in the fruit world. Plus, the fruit offers a bunch of health benefits including dietary fiber, Vitamins A and C, as well as Potassium and Phosphorus.

This Prune smoothie recipe requires a bit of pre-planning to plump up the prunes by putting them in a bowl with hot water for fifteen to twenty minutes but the results are well worth it

3-4 prunes, pitted
1 cup apple juice
1/2 cup nonfat Greek vanilla yogurt
3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp Chia seed for even more nutrition including omega-3 fatty acids
Ice to taste
