Smoothies are quick healthy meals and they are a lot of fun too. This smoothie is based around carrots and I suddenly remembered the Bugs Bunny cartoons from my long ago youth.


If you are a certain age, or even a fan of animation the name “Bugs Bunny” will make you smile. Bugs was the hero of many Warner Bros. cartoon shorts beginning in the late 1930s and continuing on until the early 1960s.   There was even a prime time TV show, “The Bugs Bunny Show” on ABC in 1960 that lasted for two seasons. Bugs continues to be an iconic figure and was even seen in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” in 1988.

Bugs had one weakness and that was Carrots. Many episodes were tales of his hunting for a Carrot, or protecting his carrots from one calamity or another. That’s why this is Bugs’ favorite smoothie recipe, it has Carrots!

The basic smoothie is very nutritious on its own but if you would like to supercharge the nutrition, add in a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia has no taste of its own so including it won’t change the results of the recipe at all. But Chia will provide a whole range of added nutritional value including heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

In your blender mix:

– 1 large Carrot, scrubbed and sliced
-1 Apple, cored, and sliced
– 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
– 1 cup of cold apple juice
– 1 Tbsp. Chia seed
