A strawberry smoothie is probably the most popular basic smoothie around and for good reasons: one is that strawberries just taste good and another is strawberries mix well with a lot of other ingredients. For a good example of how flexible a strawberry smoothie really is consider this recipe that adds honeydew melons as well to create a low calorie strawberry melon smoothie mix that is just delicious.
The strawberries and Honeydew are rich with vitamins and nutrients and quite refreshing. By themselves, this makes a great smoothie, but–if you are looking for something more filling, you can add yogurt to the mix very easily. Either way, this recipe is bound to become one of your favorites.
Its also easy to turn this strawberry melon smoothie treat into a real nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax seeds, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your smoothie blender mix:
-1 cup of strawberries, fresh or frozen
-1 cup cut-up honeydew melon (cantaloupe also works)
-1 cup orange juice
-1 cup vanilla or plain Greek yogurt
-1 teaspoon Chia seed
Tip: If the Honeydew or strawberries are not “ripe” enough, you might want to add a little more orange juice or even ice to achieve the consistency you prefer.
