strawberry banana smoothie recipe

A Strawberry Banana smoothie recipe is an all time favorite and is a great breakfast smoothie for two, especially if you are in a hurry in the mornings (and who isn’t?).

There are countless takes on how to build a strawberry banana smoothie. The reason we like this recipe is that it includes yogurt which gives the mix a bit more body.

Its also easy to turn this strawberry banana smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax seeds, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious Strawberry Banana results.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • -3 cups of frozen strawberries
  • -2 cups of low-fat milk (Soy, or vanilla-flavored soy is ok too)
  • -1 large frozen banana, peeled and sliced (TIP: peel and slice BEFORE FREEZING)
  • -1 cup of low-fat yogurt (plain, vanilla or strawberry)

Put everything into your smoothie blender at the same time and mix until smooth. Then enjoy!

kids plus smoothies

Have you heard the expression “we are what we eat”? Well, if you haven’t, it is very much true. What we put into the engines we call our bodies in very large part defines what type of engine we are. So, if this is true, why don’t we all just eat what is healthy and provides the different nutrients we need? And, even more importantly–how do we make sure our kids get the vitamins and minerals they need with natural foods. Well, smoothies can help. Hence the title of this post: “Kids Plus Smoothies”.

For example, by now we should all agree that our overall health is very much improved when we eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables daily. Yes many, many of us do not even come close to that amount. Why is that?

Well, there are different reasons but the most frequently heard are:

– The fruits and/or vegetables are not in season
– With all the peeling and cutting, they are just too hard to prepare
– It is a challenge to work them into the family meals because the kids just won’t eat fruit or vegetables

Pardon me for saying so, but these, and many more, are just excuses and not valid reasons not to eat healthier.

Walk into virtually any supermarket and you will find a spectacular assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables at any time of the year. And the frozen section has an even larger selection of frozen fruit and vegetables. You can even get fruit and vegetable from either frozen or bottled juices. Really, there’s no excuse not to eat healthy.

But it can get boring eating the same stuff day in day out and there is no question that there is preparation time involved so what is needed is a quick, easy way to get the nutrients into our diets. And our kids are always looking for something different too!

Fruit smoothie recipes are an easy solution. Fruit smoothies are easy to make, don’t require exact ingredients and provide that meal in between when we get so hungry. Kids love the colors, the different flavors and can have a whole lot of fun helping to make them. Smoothies are a great way to get your kids to put on their chef hats and get excited about cooking!

Rather than snacking on high sodium, high fat snack treats, that only make us thirsty and unsatisfied, you can enjoy the richness of a fruit smoothie-changing the ingredients daily, and giving your body a wide variety of nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants. You can also add supplements to help your body fend off aging conditions. For example, adding a teaspoon of chia seedwhich is rich with Omega 3’s, is a definite metabolism booster with the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants your body needs for both healthy aging and healthy living.

Here is but one example of many juicer recipes that work for breakfast, lunch, or snack. This one uses bananas, which are available all year, as are papayas; and they make a wonderful taste combination.

Tomorrow, try this:

– 1 cup of yogurt (plain, vanilla or banana)
– 1 cup of frozen banana slices
– 1/2 large, ripe papaya, peeled, seeded and chopped
– 1 teaspoon Chia seed

Blend in your juicer until it reaches the consistency you prefer then enjoy!

Making fruit smoothie recipes part of your daily meal plans is, by far, the easiest way to add the daily requirements of fruit and vegetables.

Are best fruit smoothies recipes a potential help to slow the aging process>

As a culture our seniors taking to heart the Dylan Thomas quote “Do not go gentle into that good night”. Evidence of this activity can be found in the amount of money spent to tighten up sagging skin, smooth out wrinkles, and all sorts of other procedures.

At the same time the outside of the body begins to wrinkle and sag, the brain is not immune to the aging process and begins to physically shrink in size as well. Along with the shrinking, the brain’s neural connections begin to slow and fewer new nerve cells are created. And, to make this all even more depressing, the whole process begins for most of us in our 30s!

Many people are using games and “brain exercises” to stimulate the brain and impede memory loss related to age. But there is not much evidence that these activities have much of an effect. However there are activities that will help to keep the brain younger. Here are two:

Maintain a physical exercise routine. While any exercise is good, aerobic exercise is best. Medical research has found that people who exercise regularly, even if it is just walking at a moderate pace several times a week, will mentally outperform those who do not exercise.

Pay attention to your diet. Add a variety of vegetables and fruits to your daily meals and make an honest attempt to get the 5 to 9 servings daily. Having fruits and vegetables in your diet will deliver antioxidants to help prevent damage to brain cells from free radicals.

Of course the difficulty in getting that much fruit and vegetables into your diet daily is one of preparation but using best fruit smoothies greatly reduces the prep time required and offers thousands of fruit smoothie recipes that are tasty, delicious, and nutritious. Here is a recipe from the collection found at Best Fruit that proves the point:

Using fruit and vegetable smoothies is a perfect way to get a steady supply of valuable nutrients into your diet in an easy and interesting way.
