Smoothies belong in everyone’s meal plans because they are so ridiculously health and are the perfect way to add fruit to your meals.

Here is a Kiwi smoothie recipe that also includes Lime.  Both fruits are healthy in their own right and, together, they bring a lot of extra nutrition in a refreshing and tasty treat.

As nutritious as this kiwi smoothie recipe is already, it can be made even more so just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results. You can order Chia seed directly from Amazon just by clicking the link in the recipe.

In your favorite blender mix:

-Juice of 1 lime (fresh or concentrate, but fresh does add wonderful pulp that adds texture to your smoothie) (1/4 cup of lime juice is about 15 calories)
-2-3 kiwi fruit, cut in chunks (some people like the skin, others remove it) Add as many as you like depending on the size. If I am making this smoothie for a desert I will usually use 3 kiwis so it is a bit thicker (each kiwi is about 25 calories).
-1 container of Dannon Light and Fit Key Lime Yogurt (only 80 calories)
-1 tbsp. Chia seed
-Ice to Taste

The true name of kiwi is really “kiwi fruit” but “kiwi” works and is easier to write. The fruit was known as the “Chinese Gooseberry” but the name was changed as a marketing exercise in the early 1960s.

Nutritionally, kiwi fruit contains more vitamin C than the same amount of Orange. It also provides dietary fiber, potassium, but with very few calories. The flesh of the fruit is a brilliant green dotted with very small edible black seeds. Kiwi fruit is available all year around because of the different growing seasons between California and New Zealand. The New Zealand crop arrives at market during the month of June through October and the California crop arrives November through May.

If you haven’t tried kiwi fruit, this smoothie recipe featuring both kiwi fruit and orange is a great place to start. Not only do you get the kiwi nutrition goodness but Oranges are loaded as well. But, beyond the nutrition, this smoothie is a really great and tasty way to start a day.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 kiwi fruit peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup orange juice, fresh squeezed if you have it
  • 1 frozen banana peeled and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp
  • Chia seed (optional)

  • Ice to taste
