avocado honey smoothie

This quick and easy Avocado Honey smoothie proves that they are more than just an ingredient in dips. Avocados do get some bad reviews because they do have a pretty high fat content, bu 75% of that is mono-unsaturated. Avocados also provide more potassium than a banana and are a good source of B, E, and K vitamins as well as dietary fiber.

And, as a bonus, at least one early study indicates that Avocados may help to lower cholesterol levels!

In any case, whether you are on a smoothie diet, or just enjoying them occasionally, this is a very tasty and healthy recipe.

1 ripe avocado, sliced peeled and without pit
1 cup low fat or 2% milk
1/2 cup low fat vanilla Greek yogurt
2 tbs. honey
Ice to taste

This avocado Honey smoothie can be made even healthier by adding a tsp. of Chia seed to the mix.

strawberry banana smoothie recipe

A Strawberry Banana smoothie recipe is an all time favorite and is a great breakfast smoothie for two, especially if you are in a hurry in the mornings (and who isn’t?).

There are countless takes on how to build a strawberry banana smoothie. The reason we like this recipe is that it includes yogurt which gives the mix a bit more body.

Its also easy to turn this strawberry banana smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax seeds, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious Strawberry Banana results.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • -3 cups of frozen strawberries
  • -2 cups of low-fat milk (Soy, or vanilla-flavored soy is ok too)
  • -1 large frozen banana, peeled and sliced (TIP: peel and slice BEFORE FREEZING)
  • -1 cup of low-fat yogurt (plain, vanilla or strawberry)

Put everything into your smoothie blender at the same time and mix until smooth. Then enjoy!

Have you ever given any thought to the Rhubarb in a Rhubarb Smoothie? No? Well, here’s something you probably didn’t know about rhubarb: the world at large considers rhubarb to be a vegetable but, in the U.S. it is considered a fruit. Why? Because of a New York court decision in 1947 that decided, for purposes of tariffs and regulations, it should be counted as a fruit.

Whether it is a fruit or a vegetable is really besides the point. Whatever the classification, rhubarb has been around for a long time. The evidence is that it was being utilized as a medicine around 3,000 years ago in China.

Today, it is cultivated mostly for its fleshy stalks which are used in food. Using rhubarb as a food is a pretty recent innovation having begun only around 400 years ago.

Nutritionally, rhubarb isn’t a big player. It does have some vitamin C, calcium, and dietary fiber. It is also cholesterol free. But it does have a great taste, especially when mixed in a smoothie. To answer all your rhubarb related question, click here.

If you want to add more nutrition to this recipes, throw in a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia provides a wide range of nutritional value including important heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

  • 1 rhubarb stalk, sliced
  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
