tropical fruit smoothie

There aren’t a lot of fruits around that offer as sparkling a tropical taste or as much juiciness as does the Pineapple. It is this unique combination of taste and texture that makes tropical fruit smoothie recipes such favorites. Even when using canned or frozen pineapples, a pineapple in your smoothie brings the warm and sunny tropics right into your kitchen.

This tropical fruit smoothie recipe is a great example. Here, juicy delicious pineapple is mixed with a banana and cold fruit juice to render a treat for breakfast, lunch, or afternoon snack.

This recipe also includes Chia seed for an extra blast of nutrition. Chia seed is a nutritional powerhouse including cholesterol fighting, heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seed has no real taste of its own so including it is not going to change the wonderful tropical taste of the recipe.

In your favorite blender mix:

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (peel and slice before freezing)
  • 1 cup of chilled Pineapple Orange fruit juice (we used Dole’s)
  • A handful of ice cubes
  • 1 Tbsp. Chia seed

Mix well for a couple of minutes. Sometimes fresh pineapple takes a bit longer. You can also use chilled canned pineapple if you don’t have any fresh pineapples in the store–or you don’t have time to cut one up.* Fruit2day is made by Hero/WhiteWave which is headquartered in Colorado and promotes many healthy organic food products.
