A lot of smoothie recipes mix vegetables and fruit in combinations not often seen outside of a tropical salad. This veggie smoothie is one such recipe. It includes healthy veggies like lettuce and celery with a number of healthy fruits like apples and pears to create a really satisfying and tasty treat.

If you are among those that don’t like Kale because of its very prominent taste (some even call is “harsh”) feel free to substitute another leafy green like baby spinach.

Its also easy to turn this veggie smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

1 1/2 cups filtered water
1 head chopped romaine lettuce
4 stalks celery
1 bunch Kale
1 apple, cored and quartered
1 pear, cored and quartered
1 banana, peeled and sliced
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp. Chia seed
