More years ago than I care to remember, my grandmother made Apple Brown Betty for dessert every now and then. If you have never had this, it is pretty much like a cobbler using spiced fruits and bread crumbs. This apple smoothie is designed to take that same taste and put it in a glass. I think its great and you may as well.
Its also easy to turn this Apple smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your trusty blender mix:
- 3/4 cup low fat or fat free milk
- 2 tsp. plain low fat yogurt
- 1/3 cup apple sauce
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. caramel topping
- 1 tsp. low fat whipped topping (optional, only if you want!)
- 1tsp. crumbled sugar cookies (only because you’ve been so good with the low fat up to now)
- 1 tbsp. Chia seed
Mix everything except the topping and sugar cookie crumbs in your blender and blend until very smooth. Garnish with the topping and crumpled sugar cookies (only if you want to) and serve!
