Bananas are a smoothie staple for a couple of reasons: They taste great, they mix really well with just about every other fruit (and some veggies), and they provide a pleasing consistency when mixed. A lot of smoothies depend on bananas for one, or all, these reasons. A perfect example is this banana berries fruit smoothie.
In this recipe, bananas are mixed with mixed berries and milk to create a really satisfying mixed fruit smoothie that is also really easy to make.
Its also easy to turn this mixed smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a noticeable taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.
In your favorite blender mix:
– 1 frozen banana, peeled and sliced (Tip: peel and slice before freezing)
– ½ cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
– ½ cup strawberries, fresh or frozen
– 1 tbsp Chia seed
– 1 cup cold milk (soy or 2%)
