Tomorrow morning, treat yourself and your family to a rich (and very healthy) mixed berry smoothie using fresh or frozen berries. Or, this smoothie does well as a lunch meal replacement as well.

Its also easy to turn this mixed berry smoothie treat into a nutrition powerhouse just by adding a tablespoon of Chia seed. Chia is a natural seed that adds a large measure of nutrition including heart healthy, cholesterol fighting omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Even better, unlike Flax, Chia doesn’t have a taste of its own so adding it here won’t change the delicious results.

In your favorite blender mix:

– 1 cup of mixed berries, for example raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and/or blackberries
– 2 Tbsp low-fat yogurt
– 1 Tbsp honey
– 1 to 2 cups of cold milk (soy, low-fat, 2% or whole)
– 1 tbsp. Chia seed

Add berries, honey and yogurt in your smoothie blender and then add milk.  Start to blend adding more milk until blended to your favorite consistency.
