Did you know that the sweet orange was unknown in Europe prior to the 11th century? This delicious fruit was first brought to Italy from India and quickly replaced the native bitter oranges. Sweet oranges also make a great orange juice smoothie. Add Pineapple and you have an Orange Juice Pineapple smoothie!
This is a healthy orange juice Pineapple smoothie that celebrates our love of sweet oranges and mixes in Pineapple for additional fruit goodness.
Optionally, add a tsp. of Chia seed as well. Chia is a nutritional gold mine with antioxidants, dietary fiber and heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Even better, is has no real taste of its own so, if you do choose to mix it in, it won’t change the delicious flavor of the recipe.
In your favorite blender combine:
– 2 cups of orange juice, the colder the better
– 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
– 1 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt (or if you want you can use pineapple-flavored, or orange)
– 1 teaspoon of Chia seed (optional)
Pour into chilled glasses and enjoy! This recipe makes 2 servings.
